2024 McCracken Camps: A message from Coach German to past campers
2023 McCracken Camper,
I am guessing that, like me, you have been watching a lot of basketball lately. I watched more of both the men’s and women’s NCAA tournaments than ever (and that’s saying something!). I don’t mean to upset any University of Kentucky fans, but I especially enjoyed Greg Kampe and his Oakland Golden Grizzlies upsetting the Wildcats in the first round. Coach Kampe was a long-time camper and counselor at The McCracken Basketball Camp, and was even my counselor my last year as a camper at the MBC (a long time ago!).
The ending of the basketball season got me to thinking about the upcoming summer as we make plans for our 62nd year in operation. It's that time of year and enrollment is now picking up steam. As past campers, I did want to caution you that last year we had to close the enrollment at most of our camp sessions. Each location has limited space, and we only can accept applications for the number of players that each facility can comfortably handle.
Since I mentioned one of my camp counselors I remembered so well, I also wanted to tell you that many of the great staff who worked with you last summer are already planning to be back in 2024. I have also gotten commitments from some excellent new players and coaches who I am looking forward to working with as well.
As I mentioned above, this will be the 62nd year of our camp, making us one of the longest running camps in the country. This will be my 51st year with the MBC (as camper, counselor, and now director) and I am as excited as ever about this upcoming summer! We have two new locations: an overnight camp at Defiance College in Ohio, and a day camp at Bedford High School in Michigan, along with returning to nearly all of the many overnight and day camp locations we have had in the past.
